House Ethos

My House Master at school once remarked that the role of the House Master is to be the first person to stick up for his charges and the last person to give up on them. I try and live by this job description. New House is a family house and for Katie and myself the boys are our extended family. Our prime concern is that the boys are happy, healthy, honest and decent to each other; that they work and play hard in all areas of house and King’s life; that when they leave, they are young men who have a sense of service, leadership and teamwork.

WHAT is the NEW HOUSE Code of Conduct.

New House is a community where over fifty students, matron, cleaning staff, house parents and family and visiting tutors live and work together. In order to ensure that the house functions in a happy and productive way, I expect everyone to aim for high standards of behaviour at all times. This means that all members of the House live by a simple and principled set of rules. These are:

Working hard in all spheres of school life.

Honesty: acting with integrity and being honest with yourself and with others.

Acting kindly and decently.

Treating the House fabric and each other’s property with respect.

NEW HOUSE House Master’s Study :The open Dawe policy.

My door is nearly always open so come in for a chat, some advice, a poor joke, a game of indoor putting or an ear bashing (if you deserve one!)

If the door is closed, please wait outside or come back later because I’m probably either teaching or I’m talking to someone on the phone or in person.

Good times to catch me are between 8-8.20 am, after lunch time registration or between 18.30-18.50 in the evening.

In the event of an emergency ring the bell to the flat at any time.
